CAPTAIN RUSSELL AT WAIPAWA.

(By Telegraph.) WAIPAWA, June 7. Captain Russell addressed his constituents here last night. Referring to the Cheviot purchase, he pointed out that the settlers were already asking for a reduction of rent, which proved that the Government had paid too much. If the people could not pay their rent, the situation would have to be faced. They could not drive settlers off after spending their all m improvements, and the loss would have to be borne by the colony. From what he had seen m various parts of the colony, he felt confident that a reaction against the Government had set m, and that they would be defeated at the next election. A unanimous vote of thanks and confidence was passed.
