TIMAIIU SIDE SCHOOL.

Messrs Gvandi and Harrop representing the Timaru Seliool Committee, waited on the Board to ask a question relative to the proposal to raise the teaching of the Side School to the Fourth Standard. The question was thi§ ; It such a'nhm': berof children drafted fWW the Main Schop} tp the Biqe School as to reduce the etatfrequiroments (acoordlng to the regulations) of the Main School, yet not sufficient to increase the staff" requirements of the Side School, would the Board disregard the regulations, in order to save the present teachers, and the present salaries ? Jn tlip cqurse of the discussion Mr Grandi said it had been worked out that if 4Q children left the Main School for the Bide School, om or two teachers would have to be taken from the Main School, and yet that addition to the attendance at the Side School, would not entitle this school to any increase on the present staff. The matter was discussed between the Board and the deputation, and after the retirement of the deputation, Mr Talbot suggested that the removal of pljildren from the Alain School tq the Sjde School would make room far children from Waimataitai, and it was agreed at the last meeting that the alteration should be made, provided that it entailed no further expense to the Board.

He moved " That in reply to the deputation from the Timaru School Committee, re teaching staff they be informed that in the event of a number of the pupils at present attending the Main School being drafted to the Side School, the circumstance will not at present militate in the direction of reducing their present staff of teachers."
