(By Telegraph.) AUCKLAND, June 1. A railway commission of enquiry, presided over by Mr Lowe, one of the engineers of the Railway Department, and Mr Rose, the Auckland Collector of Customs, is sitting, taking evidence re complaints alleged by one of the employees for some time both at Newmarket and Pukekohe, against Mr Coom, who was for many years resident engineer of permanent way. There were a number of witnesses, and the result is to be transmitted to the central authorities at Wellington.. The municipal authorities have received from Sir George Grey, for the Free Public Library, a case of valuable works. The 242 volumes include Voltaire's and Goethe's complete, 19 vols by Italian authors, 3 by Latin authors, and others by about 100 writers. WELLINGTON, June 1. in London in 1891, came on in the Magistrates Court to-day, Mr Martin, the Stipendiary Magistrate, said that he still doubted whether he had jurisdiction in the matter, the alleged offence having taken place in England, and therefore he would not commit accused for trial. Mr Jellicoe's course was a simple one; all he had to do was to apply to the Supreme Court for a mandamus to compel him (Mr Martin) to send the case for trial. Eventually the matter was adjourned till Monday to enable his Worship to further consider the arguments submitted by counsel. EEEFTON, June 1. Perotti's Terminuß Hotel, near the railway station, was totally destroyed. by fire at 8 o'clock this morning. A boy named John Snow, ten years old, son of a well known Outram resident, was killed on Saturday by a dray loaded with gravel passing over him.
