In the House of Commons Mr Buxton promised that the New South Wales Government would receive the first notice of the appointment of the late Sir B. Duff's successor. The County Councils m Ireland Bill, was read a second time m the House of Commons. I In the House of Commons, referring to the seizure of the Midland Kailway by the New Zealand Government, Mr Buxton stated that the Imperial Government were unable to act m the matter until Ministers recived some complaint from the city men interested. May 31. Mr E. W. Hanbury, member for Preston, asked whether there was any truth m the report that the Hon. Sir Arthur Hayter, member for Wai sail, had been "*'" nominated for the Governorship of New South "Wales. { Mr Buxton said that the appointment had not yet been settled, but he was not at liberty to explain the causes of delay. He declined to refer to the remonstrance cabled by- the Premier, Mr .Reid.
