. ♦ TIMARU v. WAIMATE. The above Cup match was played at Waimate yesterday afternoon, m Victoria Park. A very large crowd assembled to witness the game, which was fast from beginning to end. The "Waimate team, unlike former years, are very strong at present, and gave the Timaru men a lot of trouble m the first spell, keeping them m their own 25 almost the whole of the time, during which Macintosh kicked a fine goal from a penalty. In the second spell the Timaru backs exhibited some fine passing rushes, and the forwards gave their opponents a lively time ; but their efforts were frustrated by the fine collaring of the Waimate backs. The game eventually ended m a win for Timaru by 3 points to nil. Mr E. Jones made a capital referee. COLONIAL Ist v. TEMUKA 2nd. This match was played at Temuka yesterday afternoon, resulting m a win for the Temuka 2nd by 6 points to nil. The Temuka forwards were far too heavy for the Colonials, as the latter were Slaying three, emergency men. The olonials' backs were quicker than their opponents, and played a splendid game. No score resulted till the last ten minutes, when Moms got over for Temuka from a dribbling rush, the shot at goal bring a failure. A few minutes after Sheen scored from a nice passing rush, but again the kick at goal failed. Time was then called. Mr Alf. Boys made an efficient referee.
