THE REVENUE.
(By Telegraph.) WELLINGTON, May 30. According to figures published by the Times this morning, purporting to be from to-day's Gazette, which, however, has not been issued to the public, the revenue for the March quarter was : — Customs, £435,21& ; stamps, £165,705; post and telegraph, £37,803 ; land tax, £3034 ; income tax, £83,443 ; beer duty, £17,810 ; railways, £373,494 ; registration, etc., £14,236; marine, £6836; miscellaneous, £33,778; territorial, £124,690; total, £1,286,154. The expenditure for the same quarter was : — Permanent appropriations. £157,833 ; annual appropriations, £672,349 ; transferred to the Public Work's fund, £200,000; total, £1,024,182. Deducting a debit balance at December 31st of £84,173 and adding £222o received on die Cheviot account, a surplus for the year of £180,019 is arrived at.
