Although there was only a moderate entry, the demand was not by any moans brisk, prices again Bhowing a drop of perhaps la per head, those ruling for best sheep showing the most decline. In lambs thore was a large entry, no fewer than 83S being penned, mndium to good. Although the whole were disposed of a much smaller number would have satisfied requirements. Competition was only moderately active resulting m easier, prices. Best brought 8a to 9a 6d,others Us to 7s 9d. . Wheat— The •wheat market, like' others, has been interfered with to a great extent by the holidays, bat is expected to resume its tone soon. Meantime dnllness prevails, and transactions are not extensive, being confined to the execution of milling orders, and mills being pretty fully stocked with Hour are content to work off the balance of their wheat stock; consequently they merely buy when particular lines rnn short. . Prime velvet is the only class m request, and with sonia of the mills shut down there ia less demand even for this description. Quotations for prime milling velvet is lOd to 5s Id, best Tuscan '(nominal) 4s 9d to sa, medium to good 4s 4d to 4s Bd, inferior to medium 3a 6d to 43 3d, broken :2s 3d to 33 3d (ex store, sacks woighed m terms). Oats.-7-The market has tgain resumed its usual tone, but there is no great keenness on the part of buyers to operate although when sales are made the prioe3 obtaining before the holidays ire generally secured. 'J ho stock m store with the exception perhaps of a few lots of inferior, are now oleared out, and with only a few coming forward the supply is no more than sufficient for requirements. There .is little or no demand for shipment to Australia, but we have buyers occasionally for the Home market who, at the moment, howover, are unabla to purchase at auy advance on late ■ quotations which wo may again give— for best milling la Bid to Is. 'Bld, extrn. prime id more, best short bright feed Is 7i-d to Is Bd, medium ls.6id to Is 7id, inferior Is 5d to Is 6d (ex store, sacks ,extra,'iet cash. Jd per bushel extra, f.o.b. Dunedin). Barley has little or no demaud, but it may. be noted that the market is almost clear of all sorts, so that at the moment there ia ho business of any consequence passing. Quotatations are nominal, say for best malting 2s . lOd to 33, medium 2a 7d to 2s 9d, feed and ] milling 2a 4d to 2s 6d (ex store, sacks extra, j terms). j
