(By Telegraph.) Auckland, Sept.. 16. Tho following aro the particulars of the drowning of Captain Trayto, of the Sybil, at the end of July: — Whilo the Sybil was on tho point of sailing from Mnnnhiki, Captnin Trayto, who was lying on deck resting, suddenly turned over and rolled between the railings and deck into tho sea. His body could bo seen motionless m tho water. A Kanaka jumped overboard and held his head up till rescued by a boat, when Captain Trayto was found to be man exhausted state. Bestorative3 were applied, but all efforts to rustoro animation proved fruitless. Captnin Trayto's body was subsequently interred at tho Island. It is believed when deceased fell overboard ho was suffering from an attack of asthma from which ho had been suffering considerably, and m consequence was unable to raako any efforta towards Baying his own lifo. He has been years m tho island trade, and leaves a grown up daughter. The Coursing Club's champion stakes were run off to-day at Plumpton Park. Mr Griffith's Paradox won the stako. Meteor was runner up. Napibb, Sept. 16. The Hawie's Bay Kugby Union having misunderstood the tolegram from the New South Wales football team, resolved to-night to send nn apology to the team, and arrange for a match on Saturday. Wellington, Sept. 16. A proclamation appears m tho Gazelle abolishing the Christchurcb. District Court from Ist October noxt. The Gazette notifies that tho sitting of the District Court for Titnaru district is fixed for 11th November, and at Waimate for 15th November, the latter for civil business only. A proclamation appears m the Gazette from Western Australia prohibiting tho importation into that colony of horned cattle, sheep, and swine, from places beyond tho limits of tho Austrnlasian colonies. Tho Gazette notifies that tho chairmen of hospital and charitable aid boards are appointed ex officio visitors of Government and local industrial schools. Lieutenant Andrews, of Sydenham, vrho was recently granted a commission m the line, has been appointed to tho first battalion of Sherwood Foresters, tho Darbyshire regiment, now stationed m Ireland. Blbniibim, Sept. 16. A two-year-old daughter of Mr P. Cross, of tho Telegraph Department, died to-day, from eating matches. An inquest will be held this afternoon. Hokitika, Sept. 16. The Supreme Court sessions concluded today. In the divorce case a decree was rofused, both parties having committed adultery. In tho seduction case a verdict was given for tho plaintiff, for £75 and costs. Several appeals and private suits were also dealt with. Tho Bank of New Zealand shipped 26140zs of gold, of tho valuo of £10,450, purchases since August 19th. CHBISTCHTntCH, Sept. 1 6. Mr G. J. Matson is sending a shipment of 2000 ostrich feathers to England m the Bimutaka. The quality is considered by exports to be very good. Tho Sydney football team left for Wellington m tho Manapouri at 5 p.m. Stephen Middleborough, a young man m the employ of T. Bowley, baker, Knightatown, was thrown from his cart this afternoon and killed by the vehicle turning over on him. Tho Wool Growor's Association of Australasia propose to float a company m Melbourno to work a factory at Scnju, Japan. A portion of the capital it is anticipated will be subscribed m Now Zealand. At tho mooting of the North Canterbury Education Board to-day a resolution was passed strongly protesting against the intention of tho Minister of Education to withhold any grant for repairs to school premises. Dunbdin, Sept. 16. The Education Board has passed a resolution instructing the secretary to comraunicato •with the other boards m the colony 03 to ■whether they are m favour of an exchange of inspectors.
