[Per Electric Teleciraph — Copyright.] [Reuteu's Agency.] [Received 3.30 p.m., Sept. 21tb.l Melbourne, Sept. 24. The robbory at the Commercial Bank is now fully explained. The Police finding that Richard Corbett, a bookmaker, and the Bank caretaker's son, could not be found, prosecuted enquiries. The caretaker's family declared he was liviug m Sydney, whither a telegram was despatched. A reply was received that he had been gone to New Zealand a fortnight. The Police, however, discovered he had been seen m Melbourne a few days since, and subsequently traced him to Meagher's Hotel, Sandridge, where he had been living for 10 days under the assumed name of Clinton. The police found Corbett m the hotel parlor. He denied all knowledge of the robbery. Upon taking him upstairs, however, three bars of gold were found m his coat pocket, together with £41 m notes, £39 ill gold, and £32 m silver, also a loaded revolver. Corbett thereupon confessed he had duplicate keys made a year ago for all the safes m the Commercial Bank. He watched his opportunity and entered by the front door. When Mr Pinnock, the Ballarat Manager, arrived with the gold, he concealed himself. The robbery was effected during the night, and he made his escape m the morning. Ho declared he had planted the balance of the plunder m a swamp, but upon being taken there no sign of gold could be seen. It is certain that Corbett was the thief who stole £1000 which was missed from the same Bank two years ago, he having at that time declared that ho had won £1000 m a Bweep. It appears that one of his sisters knew he was m Melbourne. The police are confident they will now be able to recover the missing bars. [RocoiTßd 8.15 p.m., Sept. 2ttli.] At a meeting held at Ballarat on Saturday evening, resolutions strongly supporting annexation of the Pacific islands were passed. Sydney, Sept. 24. Arriyed this morning — Steamship Alanapouri, from Auckland. Brisbane, Sept. 24. It is innounced that the Government has concluded arrangements with the Orient Steamship Company for the conveyance of mails between London and this colony, on the same terms as the agreement recently made by that Company with the New South Wales Government.
