An accident occurred yesterduy evening to a son of Mr Gordon, boardinghouse keeper, Dee-street, while watering three horse 3 m the creek near the post office. Young Gordun was riding one and leading the others, and when preparing to return with them to the stable, ha alighted from his first mount, preferring another of the horses. This horse took fright at something or other, and it bolted and threw the boy, who sustained several severe injuries. A Celestial named Jim Sung was charged at the R.M. A number of the lesees of the Wakatip runs desiie to (surrender their leases, owing to the unworkable nature of the country. One lessee, who holds two runs, states that he lost 32,500 sheep and 2100 lambs last wint«r. Another lost 4000 out of a flock of 9500 sheep, and a third 5000. Invercakgill, April 7. Patrick McMenanan has been committed to the Supreme C^urt on a charge of arson. A hut used as a stable, and m which was the horse Young Lofty — recently sold for LIOO, but insured m the New Zealand Office for L 275 — has been burnt down. At the inquest the jury added a rider to tho effect that Insurance Offices were encouraging fires by over insuring. The Kaitangata Fund is still growing. Over LSOO is the amount collected up to date. A coach accident occurred at Waimutuku last Saturday. The coach sank m tho quicksands, and two out of four horses were drowned. The other horses had to be shot. The loss is LIOO. The passengers escaped.
