TIMARU CRICKET CLUB.

The following letter, addressed to the Hon. See. of the Tiniaru Cricket Clubj has been handed to us for publication : — ■ Public Works office, i January 29, 1869. Sir,— ln reply to your letter of the 2Sth of November last, I have the honor to inform you that the Government will be Trilling to "set apart a portion of the Tiiuaru park reserve for the 'use of the Timaru Cricket Club for the purposes of the game of cricket on the following conditions : — The public shall at all times be allowed free acees3 t^t'the laud occupied by the Club, but not so as to interfere with or interrupt any game of cricket being played there, or to injure the ground for the purposes of the game of cricket. The Club shall be open to all persons desirous of becoming members on payment of entrance fee aud annual subscription, and otherwise conforming to the regulations of Club. A permanent fence shall be erected by the Club, to the satisfaction of the Park Board to be hereafter appointed, within the first two years on the outside boundary of the ground, and a wive fence on the inner boundaries ; and a plot of the ground 'sufficient for the purposes of the game of cricket shall bo laid down m English grass within one year from this date. The right of planting within the limits of the ground is reserved to the Government or Park Board. The proceeds of pasturage shall belong to the Government or Park Board, who shall make it a condition of any lease that sheep should be kept- off the ground when desired by the Club. I may state that -the Superintendent has no power to grant a lease for a longer period than three years, but the Club will no doubt, consider itself justified m counting upon the renewal of the right of occupation at the cud of each period of three years if the above conditions are complied with. 1 have, &c, Emv.
