TIMARU MUNICIPAL COUNCIL.

A meeting of the Council was held at the Club Hotel oil Thursday last. ■ There were present Messrs Stubbss, Healey, -Taylor, Turnbull, Cliff, Cardale, LeOren aud Melton. In the absence of the Chairman Mr Healey was moved to the chair.; The minutes of the previous' meeting having been read and confirmed, the following letter was read from the Secretary -for Fublic Works : — ; ' Public' Works Office, Christchurch,! The following" letter "Jvas- also read from the secretary of the- Timaru Landing and Shipping Company : — To the Chairman of, the Timaru Municipal Council. Sir,. — I am instructed by the Directors of the Timaru Landing and Shipping Company (Limited) to apply'^to the Council for a license to erect a capstan, sheds, &ct, for the purpose of carrying dn" the' work of the said company. . on the unoccupied part of the Beach reserve, near the corner of George street. Proposed hy Mr Melton, seconded by Mr Taylor: — "That permission be granted to the Timaru Lauding and Shipping Company (Limited) to erect a capstan, sheds, &c, on the Beach, reserve, at the end of George street, for the purpose of carrying on their work, the validity of the said license to be at the risk of the licensee." Carried: Mr LeCren and MrStu,bbs called attention to the useless state of the pumps belonging to the Council.
