TIMARU MUNICIPAL COUNCIL.
A meeting of the Council was held at the Club Hotel oil Thursday last. ■ There were present Messrs Stubbss, Healey, -Taylor, Turnbull, Cliff, Cardale, LeOren aud Melton. In the absence of the Chairman Mr Healey was moved to the chair.; The minutes of the previous' meeting having been read and confirmed, the following letter was read from the Secretary -for Fublic Works : — ; ' Public' Works Office, Christchurch,! September 6, 1867. > .Sir, —Referring to your letters of the 23rd and ISfch ult.y on th'e subject of the reserves of land within the/ town of Timaru, I have the honor to statefthat the Government will introduce : ari Ordinance during the next'session of the Provijicial^Cpuncil, vesting the right m the Municipal Council to deal with the, . reserves , ia question. In the meantime the Council may, as thby^'ere informed on the 2nd December/ 1565, enter upon the Occupation of them: .. • ; .... I have, &c, : : ;: .V; F.;E. Stewart, . Secretary for Public- Works. The following" letter "Jvas- also read from the secretary of the- Timaru Landing and Shipping Company : — To the Chairman of, the Timaru Municipal Council. Sir,. — I am instructed by the Directors of the Timaru Landing and Shipping Company (Limited) to apply'^to the Council for a license to erect a capstan, sheds, &ct, for the purpose of carrying dn" the' work of the said company. . on the unoccupied part of the Beach reserve, near the corner of George street. I have the honor ; to be, Sir, kc, F. W. Stubbs, ■ Secretary pro tern. Timaru September 30, 1867. Proposed hy Mr Melton, seconded by Mr Taylor: — "That permission be granted to the Timaru Lauding and Shipping Company (Limited) to erect a capstan, sheds, &c, on the Beach, reserve, at the end of George street, for the purpose of carrying on their work, the validity of the said license to be at the risk of the licensee." Carried: Mr LeCren and MrStu,bbs called attention to the useless state of the pumps belonging to the Council. Mr Cliff, gave . notice of motion that he' intended to propose at the next meeting of the Council, that tenders be called for keeping the said pumps m repair for six' or twelve months. . ■ Accounts,Mi6'theaihaiifat:of £6 10s, having ibeen^.prdjred to be paid, the meeting j separated.
