TIMARU MUNICIPAL COUNCIL.
The usual fortnightly meeting of this Council was held on Monday evening last. Present, all the members, except Mr. Hewling. Mr. H. J. LeCren m the chair. Mr. Smith, the contractor for boring an artesian well, attended, and stated that he could not
proceed with the contract, m consequence of the apparatus not being or sufficient strength. Moved by Mr. Ellis, and seconded by Dr. McLean, "That as Mr. Smith says he cannot proceed with the boring with the present apparatus, the contract be cancelled, with Mr. Smith's consent, and that the Sub-Committee confer -with Mr. Smith on the subjeot." Carried.
Moved by Mr. Ellis and seconded by Mr. Stnbbs, "That if Mr Smith wishes to cancel the contract, the Council advertise m the Timaru, Christchurch, and Dunedin papers for tenders for sinking artesian wells. The contractor to find his own apparatus. The bore to be 24 inches, and to go to the depth of 300 feet, if required. Payment to be made at the rate of 50 per cent, of the work done." Carried. , The Council then adjourned.
