OAMARU.
[from a correspondent.] A spirited contest is going on bore between Mr. R. Campbell, jtinr., of Tinware Station, and Mr. W. F. Ins-ram, late Editor and part proprietor of the Oamaru Times, for the seat m the House of Representatives for the district. So close is it that bets have been freely given and taken on each side. Mr. Campbell's views are liberal and his opponent's also. The former claims to have more wealth and personal influence j the latter greater nge, experience, and knowledge of general politics, and of the interests and requirements of the district. The day of nomination is Tuesday next, 20tb, and the polling day Friday, 23rd. No election contest of any moment has previously occurred here. A great number of those qualified are not on the roll, but are now bus}' giving" m their claims. The weather of late has been magnificent, and the harvest m consequonce is well advanced. . Business here at present is m a healthy state, and wool-shipping coming to a close.
