Hand Drilling Competition at Thames.

For the encouragement of rod:.’Hiring contOßts a generous offer of a £lO prize has been made by Messrs 8. S Sorensen and H. G. Woohner for th* best single-handed driller in this district. in order to properly follow this up a preliminary meeting of some of the loading mining men was held last Saturday night tc draw up the arrangements necessary to bring this contest to a successful issue. The following gentlemen bare kindly consented to act on the Committee and decide on the winner:—Mr S. 8. 'oreusen, time-keeper; Messrs Gh S, Clarke and W. H. Burch, starters; with Messrs J. McLean, M- Paul, J. A- Agufcw, and others; Mr H. C, Woo’xner has also promised to acta* Secretary. It is propped that the competition shall be held on Ba'ur ay evening, November 6th, in the Miner's Union Hall, a small charge beidz made at the doors (Indie- free' in am of the local Hospital. Entrance f.r competition is os, open to all comers. Competitors to bring their own t< ols sharpened and ready for use, drills to be not less than J inch- steel, Each man to draw for allotted place and t - have a spell of Ift minutes. Two or more blocks of even pain stone will be selected and placed i n the floor of the stage. In order to help the Com mittoe and to facilitat matters, all intending competitors are especialJv quested to give ill their names as si>.,n as possible to one of the ComtniUe-'. Another meeting will be held c n Saturday next to further arrange and settle all details.
