GRAFTON-UNITED,
The reef discovered in a blind gully and out-cropping 100 ft above the tunnel now being driven in the Grafton United, is without doubt thei Cross reef. Proof of this lies not, only in its size ■ and bearing, but the large quantity of manganese in the atone. Gold is p’ainly visible in the ore. Mr Brierly, the manager, is breaking down i few ton? of the stone to enable a thorough assay to be made. —Waitekauri Age, OCCIDENTAL.
The manager reports : Fair progress mode with extension of North Star lew level crosscut to intersect Loyalty reef. Advanced a total distance of 334 feet from North Star leader. Country penetrated firm description, but of more hlocky or Joiuty character than formerly, whilst limestone and silica seams crossing dr ve are becoming more numerous and much larger,

Auckland, October 11. NATIVE CHIEF. The directors of the Native Chief have granted a working option over the property. FIERY CROSS. The following wire was received this afternoon from the mine manager of the Fiery Cross :—“ Got splendid looking stone eastward of present workings. Will vire result of assay.”
