Complaints against Contractors.

(To the Editor.)

Pm,—l notice a complaint sent to the last meeting of the Thames County Council by W. Douglas, complaining about the way a certain cootractor is carrying out his contract at Omahu. What is our Engineer doing'who is up and down the road every few days to allow W. Douglas (a boy) to make complaints ? As fai as I have seen, the contract has been carried out faithfully under many difficulties, and is a credit to the con tractor. It I am not mistaken W Douglas is an employee for the Council, so he must be neglecting his own work to take such notice, as he seems so well informed. It shows a very bad spirit from a non successful contracts to make such remarks even had they been true. If there has been any favouritism shown, in my opinion it has been to the Douglas family. - For the last five years when there tfas only one man employed in the whole Torara Riding it was Douglas; if there were two employed, it was two Douglases. The same with horses and drays, and it is the same to-day. So 1 think, in the interests of the ratepayers, it is quite time there was a competent Foreman appointed for this important Totara Riding—one that would do his duty without fear or favor to anyone, W, Douglas included.— I am &c.,

Totara Ratepayer.
