The general stuff crushing at the mill is about the same quality .as that crushed at the battery last week. The following telegrams were sent by tho manager to the directors in Auckland yesterday morning: " The reef in the new winze is 4 feet thick, but is much split up. The stuff in the single stamper is not showing so well. There are 401bs specimens from the middle stope on No 9 reef." " 1.47 p.m.: 30 lbs specimens from stopes on Wallace's leader, 80 feet level. An opinion is held by some that this proves in some measure that the lode will bo found again on tho other side of the slide. About threo hundred weight and a quarter of picked stone has been broken out of the leading stope since yesterday morning. The stone broken out is of first-class quality, showing gold freely, The drive will be started on the leauer as soon as the majn stope is in unison with the drive face. The leader from which tho specimens were obtained is in the face of the stope about three inches in width, while at tho top it is very nearly five inches. There is a large quantity of stone to be taken out of the leading stope. A start will be made to-day to get the stuff down to the battery. Thero are about 95 tons of first-class stone, which is expected to yield a good return. The manager expects to send about lOcwt of specimens to be crushed. The manager, Mr S. Caledonian.—A shot was fired yesterday morning, which had the effect of bringing down about a dozen pounds of stone showing a small quantity of gold. This stone was taken from the reef, and was not picked. One of the boilers was undergoing the process of cleaning out yesterday, in order that the Inspector of Machinery may bo satisfied. Tho ILubanui battery started work again yesterday, after being idle since Thursday last.
