A QUEER ELOPEMENT.
A bumoub that has- proved too truo lias' been for some time current in Elgin re- , garding the flight from the town of a lady and her coachman. As far as cau be gathered, the facts of the case are these:, A sturdy fellow of 'about thirty years 'of* age : had been for about eighteen' months'' employed'as a ! coachman to the daughter- ■' of a latomuch-esteemedgentleman,,a lady, :.' of thirty-six years of age, who resided, ui with! her mother in Elgin, and for time past it. had. been, conjecture^,ttat, ( (j„ familiarity had sprung,, ujJ lady and her coachman. The iacjy moved in the highest circles of JBlgiri*' 4 society, while her man-servant was,-in ft— former part of his life, a ploughman. Since'receiving or gaining the good graoes Tf of the lady, the coachman had ; been even more looked after in- the way of comfort than he was formerly, having, it is understood, been led to make his style of living higher,, than that of the common unregarded coachman. _ The two, seem to have concooted their plan of. flight very systematically and un- ■ suspiciously. The coachman sold the horse and oarriago in Elgin 5 andt af fine retriever dog of his mistress in Forres. So sly did the two oreep away "" that it was a day or two before the affair got wind. It is believed that the coachman started first and took the train to Aberdeen. '. lowed thither in a day or two by the lady, and both left Aberdoeu for Edinburgh together.
