Detective Fitzgibbon, who has been transferred to Auckland, leaves New Plymouth on Monday next. A cable from Ottawa says that Major-General Burstall has been appointed Inspector-General, with the rank of Lieut.-General, of the Canadian militia, succeeding General Arthur Currie, who commanded the Canadians in France.
Miss M. Cartwright, who for some time past has been associated with the firm of Mi-. H. Cooker, tailor, of New Plymouth, was on Friday afternoon presented with an oak biscuit barrel on behalf of Mr. and Mrs. Cocker and the staff on. the occasion of her approaching marx-iage. Mrs. Emma Reid, widow of the lato Mr. Walter Scott Reid, formerly Spli-citor-General, died in Wellington this morning. The deceased lady was born in New Plymouth, and was a daughter of the late Mr. Henry Halse, a judge of the Native Land Court, and a noica of the late Mr. William Halse.
Mr. H. L. Spratt, Hawera, in support of whose application Mr. P. O’Dca appeared, and Messrs. S. Macalister and A. Coleman, of Stratford, for whom Mr. C. H. Croker appeared, were yesterday admitted as barristers of the .Supreme Court by his Honour Mr. Justice Salmond.
