INFLUENZA COMPENSATION.
MANY PECULIAR CLAIMS. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. SYDNEY, August 20. The influenza claims report discloses that some claimants took a wide view of tho ■meaning ‘of compensation. In some instances claims aro referred to attempts to improperly secure Government money. One man sought a refund of wages where businesses were not closed; another claimed for repairing dilapidated premises; a third claimed rent for selfowned premises. In the case of publicans’ claims it was found that numbers did better business during the epidemic with their front doors closed than when open.
A claim on behalf of Roman Catholic schools for fees and salaries was reduced from £21,850 to £414 on the groqnd that teachers in such schools received no salaries, and no allowance is made for fees Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
