LICENSING COMMITTEE.

ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Taranaki Licensing Committee was held in the New Plymouth Courthouse to-day. There were present: Mr. T. A. B. Bailey, S.M. (chairman), and Messrs. F. P. Corkill, W. Ambury, J. S. Connett and J. S. S. Medley. An apology for absence was received from Mr. R. H. George. Neiv licenses were granted as follows: Oakura Hotel, F. C. Emeny; Okatq Hotel, E. 0. Meredith. In the case of the Breakwater Hotel, a transfer from T. Knowles to E. D. Hamilton and a new license to the latter were granted. The police report on an application for a renewml of the license of AV. G. Emeny for tiie Royal Hotel included a recommendation for a structural alteration m connection with the present proximity of the bar and the private sitting-room.—The application was adjourned for a w'eek in order that the members of the committee might make an inspection. An application by Rebecca Tabor for a renewal of the license of the Terminus Hotel was favourably reported upon, but Mr. Corkill objected on the ground that the expiring license had been granted with an intimation from the committee that the house must be re-built during the year, and this had not been done.—The chairman pointed out that the reports on the application show'cd that the Terminus was one of the cleanest and best conducted in the town, and Mr. H. R. Billing, who appeared for the .-pplicant, con--tended that a committee could not decide on an application in advance.—The committee decided to adjourn the application for a week. , Renewal of licenses was granted in the following cases: Criterion Hotel, Maria MTvean; Grosvenor Hotel, E. M'Ginty; White Hart Hotel, H. J. S. Brockman; Red House Hotel, E. Whittle; Imperial Hotel, T. Richards; s.s. Rarawa (packet license), Northern Steamship Company; A. Goldwater, wholesale license. The committee adjourned until noon next Thursday.
