A TOWN FLOODED. Per Press Association. TAUMARUNUI, June 7.. On Saturday and Sunday heavy rain flooded the Wanganui and Ongarue rivers, which were at the highest for four years. Both rivers were bank to hank, i'here was a fair amount of erosion, but nothing serious. 'The new traffic bridge and the protection works of the Wanganui Him- stood tho test wed. ' At tho boat landing tho Ongarue was nine feet above tho ordinary water mark, and it is doubtful if tho river boat will go down to-day. It is reported tiiat there is 26 leet of extra water at the houseboat. She is now anchored over the flowerbeds. • TE KUITI, June 7. It W'as reported at midday that there was two or three feet of _ water over tho lino north of Hangatiki. All was clear to tho south and tho express from tlie south will leave on its return this evening if no train from tho north gets through. Heavy floods occurred on Saturday night. Tho river through the town overflowed and a largo area was inundated. Slips on the main roads which isolated the town are being cleared. The express got through on Sunday night hut a sudden rise of water early on Monday morning blocked the early trains. Minor slips to the south were removed. Damage was caused by slips and by flood ivater. The flood is receding, hut tho sky is overcast. [The sender of this message has forgotten to mention what town is referred to.]
