A CAPTAIN DROWNED. Per Press Association. WANGANUI, March 2. Charles Thompson, captain of the steamer Invercargill, was drowned early this morning. When returning to the ship at 1 o’clock'fie fell overboard as he was climbing the rail. The mate on deck witnessed the occurrence and roused the crew- to assist the skipper, but tho efforts proved unsuccessful. Captain Thompson was a well-known coastal skipper. He was married and his wife resided at Newtown, .Wellington. RAILWAY CROSSING ACCIDENT. HAMILTON, March 2. Barker Robinson, aged 30, while riding a motor-cycle, crashed into a train at the Claudelands crossing this morning. Ho was considerably injured', and was removed to the Waikato Hospital, where it was found a leg was fractured, and the other leg, his head and body badly cut about.
