SOLDIERS ON THE LAND.
GOOD RESULTS ACHIEVED. Per Press Association. .WELLINGTON, Feb. 28. The demands of returned soldiers for fanning land in the Wellington Land District continue to exceed the supply, though an eueigetic policy is being pursued by the At the last meeting of the board 110 applications were considered. It is satisfactory to learn that, in the majority of cases, returned men who have taken up farms are doing extremely well, notwithstanding the high price of land. The authorities state that, almost without exception, whci'e the men have honestly tried to get on and applied themselves assiduously to work there have been no failures. It lias been a very gratifying feature of tho scheme that all selectors on the Ivopano Estate, • near Foilding, have done well and one man in particular, with COW'S and pigs, cleared a very line sum in twelve months.' In the case of another settlement block in the AVairarapa there has been tho same successful result. Indeed tho returns have been quite remarkable.
