The wicket was heavy owing to rain early in the morning and the previous two days’ downpour. ' Hawke's Bay first innings realised 121 (Stevens 38., O’Brien 24. Charles 23). Eight batsmen were caught out, as the day was good for slow bowlers. Wellington went in at 5 p.m., and at the end of an hour bad: lost six wickets for 42 runs (AVnrne 16, Schrader 13).
