Sir Auckland Geddcs lias -been appointed Ambassador to Washington. Mr. J. C. Yorks, factory inspector at New Plymouth, is shortly retiring on superannuation. Mr. R. G. Poulton, inspector of births, marriages and deaths and electoral officer, is on an. official visit to New Plymouth. Constable ■ W. Phillips, of New Plymouth, left by the mail train this morning for Wellington on annual leave. /
Mr. Newton King, who went to Wellington on Harbour Board business last week, returned to New Plymouth on Saturday night.
A cable reports the death of Sir Thomas Anderson Stuart. Dean of the. Faculty of Medicine at the University of London.
A Dunedin message reports the death of Mr. George Joachim, formally years general manager of the Westport Coal Company.
A cable from Sydney says the Methodist Conference agreed to the Samoan Synod’s request that tho Rev. Slade, of ifew Zealand, should be transferred to that district.
Mr. Harry Nixon, who has just received his 'discharge from hospital, where he bad been under treatment for wounds, is on a short visit to New- Plymouth. It will be some time before ho is lit to resume a strenuous life.
The Rev. Gordon T. Beale, at present curate of St. Barnabas, Mt. Eden, Auckland, has boon appointed vicar of Holy Trinity. Te Henui, in succession to the Rev. 37. A. Favell, who has resigned. It is understood that Mr. and Mrs. Beale will arrive at tho end of ilia month. .
