LIBRARY DAY.
THE ART UNION. lu connection with Library Day an art union has been arranged in which ten water colours by Mr. John Haillio will bo offered as prizes. The winner of the first prize will have•tho first, choice from the collection, the second prize, winner tho second choice, and so on. This will give each the opportunity to select the picture which; pleases most, a matter in .which Tastes will materially differ; Mr. John Baiiiic is a skilful artist, with long experience and has produced a charming scries of pictures of scenes in tho neighbourhood of New Plymouth. Apart from their high artistic merit the pictures haw therefore the additional attraction of depicting scenes with which wo are all familiar. As we look at the mountain or the sea we are often tempted to exclaim: “How I should like a picture of that,” and Mr. Baillie has gratified this wish by the skilful reproduction of views of Mt. Egmont and of the islands near tho harbour. To some the pictures will reveal beauties they have been too blind to see before, while others will be pleased to recognise how skilfully tho trained hand and eye can depict what they have so often admired. No one should fail to take the chance of obtaining one or more of these views, which will provide lasting pleasure at the small sacrifice of Is per ticket. Even should the luck of the draw go' elsewhere, the money will still bo useful 1 in adding to the attractions of one of the most popular institutions of the town 1
