VALUE OF STATISTICS.

IN PRESENT CHANGING DATS. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. (Received Dec. 11, 8.5 a.m.) LONDON, Deo. 9. Mr. G. H. Knibbs, Commonwealth Statistician, read a paper at the Colonial Institute entitled “Statistics and National Destiny,” affirming the necessity for adequate statistics for the determination of the place of nations in the world’s affairs, or they would drift in the rapidly changing world. Class or individual interest was not always the people’s interest, therefore more _ State interference had become essential. Mr. Knibbs advocated the establishment of a national statistics bureau to build up a conspectus of national and international affairs. Ho added that no adequate conspectus at present existed for the British Empire.—Aus.N.Z. Cable Assn.
