DISORDER IN WELLINGTON.
PASSES LEGITIMATE BOUNDS. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, July 22. A large crowd assembled outside the Returned Soldiers’ Club, Lambton Quay, last night, where an open-air concert was held, at which the AVatersiders’ Band played, and numerous couples danced to'the music. A number of youths and young men objected to the 'tramcars passing along so frequently, and made attempts to hold up the vehicular traffic. Several of them climbed on the tram cars and disengaged' the trolleys. The police allowed a lot of latitude, hut eventually interfered. One man was arrested, and was- followed to the police station by a threatening crowd. Outside, the station two more arrests wore made, and the police threatened In turn the fire hose on the. crowd, and the. assemblage gradually dispersed. As a. sequel to the disturbance Leslie Oldaker was lined £2 by Mr. I£. Page, S.M., to-day on a charge of obstructing a tramear. Alfred C. NCedman was .sentenced to II days without the option of a fine for assaulting Constable Scarry, and Harry Wallace, who was charged with obstructing the police, was given the benefit of the doubt.
