TO-NIGHT
Another good house greeted the final screening last evening of the Metro wonder-play, "The Pretenders,” which has had such a remarkable run since its opening. The very many Metro enthusiasts will learn with pleasure of the advent of .Francis X. Bushman and Beverley Bayne in Metre's latest won-der-plav. "A .Million a .Minute, which opens with the usual matinee performance on Saturday next.
To-night’s programme is from the Trans-Atlantic studios and the piece do resistance is entitled “Judge hot. This film is in five parts and features the great actress, Julia Jean. Commenting upon it the Auckland totalsays;—' ‘The initial screening of the new lot of pictures at the _ Grafton Theatre was given an enthusiastic reception on Saturday. A fair share of the honours went to a distinctly impressive dramatic film entitled ‘Lest Ye Be Judged,’ which is produced in the thoroughly satisfactory manner of the Trans-Atlantic Company, but is quite different in type from other films from the same studios. The first portion of the picture is staged in Western America. where some highly exciting happenings are portrayed before the scene ot the plot is shifted to Now York, whore the story is fully developed and concluded. Much of the success of the production is due to the capable characterisation of Julia Jean - , who, it is claimed, is ono -of America’s best dramatic actresses. Harry Carey, another popular picture player, also takes a. 'prominent part in the picture. The film has qualities which should make it an extremely popular subject, and big houses will doubt’sßss lie the rule -at all sessions. The supports include an interesting edition of. the Topical Budget, which contains some first-hand information from tho front, together with a number of glimpses of interesting events,in the Old World. A laughable comic is also screened.” To-morrow night another change of programme will take place, when the latest “Fox” creation, entitled “Blue Blood and Red,” will be presented. Patrons arc reminded that the dress circle is now open. Reserves at Hoffmann’s may be had without extracharge.
