FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT* May 3.—The Anglican Church anniversary social and dance was held on the 30th ult., when there was a record attendance. The function commoncod at ,6 o’clock, when tea was served in the supper room, where, for the modest sum of Is, the public wore regaled with a sumptuous meal which, judging from the remarks'of those who partook, was worth at least double that amount. The annual meeting of parishioners was then held, the Rev. J. A. Kempthorne presiding. Tiie Vicar,- in reviewing church matters during the past year, remarked on the good attendance at the church services, and was especially thankful to note the increase in the number of communicants. The secretary (Mr. F. Kilsby) read the balance sheet, which was adopted. The chairman referred feelingly .to the good services of the Jay reader, Mr. A. A. Ward, who, owing to illness, was not present that evening. The outgoing committee, consisting of Messrs. Ward, Rudkin, H. Knowles, Kilsby, and Stephenson, aud Mesdaracs Ward, D. Jones, H. Knowles, and Miss Kilsby, were re-elected, Mr. Kilsby being appointed hon. secretary. A vote pf sympathy was accorded to Mr. Ward, and hopes for his speedy recovery were expressed. After the meeting, adjournment was made to tho hall, where dancing was soon in full swing. Thanks to the attention of Messrs. Grossman, D. Jones, and Rudkin, tho floor was in first-class condition, and excellent music was provided by Miss Anderson (Midhirst). During the evening sougs wore contributed by the Vicar and Mrs. Kempthorne, and a very attractive exhibition of club swinging was given by Miss Heloise Kivell. Miss Richardson and Miss Laurence contributed extras for dances, and the onerous duties of M.C. were carried out by Mr. E. Crossman in his usual inimitable manner. Amongst the ladies who rendered valuable assistance in providing and waiting at tea and supper wore Mcsdamcs [l, Jones, Kilsby, Grossman, Rudkin, Kempthorne, Spray, H. Knowles, A. E. Laurence, and tho Misses Laurence (2), Kilsby, and A. Jones, Mr. A. E. Laurence made an olficient doorkeeper, tho receipts being over £ll.
