WAVERLEY.

FEOJT OWN CORRESPONDENT. July s.—Tho weather for tho last two weeks has been all that could be wished for, good clear, warm days with an occasional frost. Stock of ail kinds aro looking well and the market for everything but dairj* stuff is very keen. At Mr, J. W. Hughes’ clearing sale a lino lino of 55 cows In good condition averaged somewhere on £B. At tho same sale a good lot- of Jersey heifers were passed in at £6 ss.

Tho Egmont-Wanga-um pack have boon kept busy here lately. The meet at Mr. Oscar Symes 5 on Juno 27 was a splendid outing, and again yesterday at Rafcea those who follow the hunt had a great day at Mr. Williamson’s, both in lovely' weather.

Tho A. and P. Association have issued tho yearly balance, which shows a very prosperous slate of affairs. All that is required to make this show very popular is the inclusion of dairy classes in the schedule.

Tho B Squadron's third annual ball was held in ilio Town Hall on Friday, 3rd, and was well up to expectations. The committee, with Q.M.S. Blake as secretary, spared themselves no trouble in the arrangements of their several departments, and tho result was tho best turnout of its Icind jot held here. The catering was carried out by Mr. E. P. Syraes, and tho tablo decorations were tastefully arranged by a strong committee of ladio-s. The music was supplied by the Wanganui Orchestra. During tho evening Lieutenant-Colonel AV. J . Davis was' presented with a cheque. Captain Elmslio in a very neat speech referred to tho long and faithful services rendered to the old volunteer system, and later to the territorial movement, by their guest, who had spent something like 32 years in the service. Those who had served with him and under him missed him badly, and as a mark of admiration for bis sterling character and unflagging zeal begged his acceptance of tho enclosed cheque, which had been subscribed to by almost every man of the old and new troops. Lieutenant-Colonel Davis, who was very much moved by this mark of goodwill, suitably thanked them for tho gift, which ho would value as a memento of many happy camps. Tho AVaverlcy Town Board seems to have embarked on a very stormy sea, and, to make matters worso, the members seem each to bo wanting to steer a different course. It may seem a good idea to thorn, but the contractors and ratepayers both have tempers and may lie roused to tako a hand in tho matter if something is not soon done to end the sillv little squabble. It is six weeks now since the dam broke, and it is still broken, with nothing done getting a renort from an outside engineer and dismissing tho one who planned the scheme.
