FATAL FALL FROM HORSE. PEE PRESS ASSOCIATION. WANGANUI, Feb. 17. A youth named Slade, on© of the Sedgwick boys, was thrown a horse on Sunday, and died in the hospital this morning. The unfortunate fad had only been three weeks in the Dominion. FALL INTO OLD CLAIM. DUNEDIN, Feb. 16. The police have been notified that Moses Hanrahan, a single man, aged 77 years, who lived up at St. Bathans, fell over the face of tho Scandinavian claim (about 100 ft.) yesterday afternoon and was rendered unconscious, as well as sustaining a broken leg and general bruises. His recovery is considered improbable. MAN’S SUDDEN DEATH. AUCKLAND, Feb. 16. At-ths-inquest concerning the death of Alexander Johnson, who was found dead by a milkman at the foot of thd steps of a house in Grey Lynn, the doctor stated that the cause of death was a«:severe' hemorrhage of the lungs. A verdict’was returned accordingly. ANOTHER DROWNING CASE. PALMERSTON N., Feh. 16. A lad named Ernest King, formerly a tolegraph-messengpr and latterly a letter-carrier, was drowned while bathing with some other companions in the Manawatu River this afternoon. Deceased got out of his depth, and, despite the efforts of his companions ■ to save him, sank. The-bodywas recovered by the police. A DRAY FATALITY. CHRISTCHURCH, Feb. 16. At 5.30 p.m. on Saturday the dead body of a young man, George Lindsay Roberts, aged 27, was found under a tip dray on the rdad near Scargill. Nobody saw the accident. It is surmised that Roberts, wbo-had been carting for his brother, was closing tho gate, when the house bolted, and that just as Roberts caught the reins the dray ran up the bank and overturned on him. ‘When tbe body was found the reins were still in his hands and the horse-was lying on its back. . DEATH OF A TRIMMER. WELLINGTON, Feb. 16. An inquest was opened this afternoon regarding the death of Harry Gallagher, on Saturday evening,, after being hit during an altercation with John Albert Tucker. Evidence as to the affray was given by several men who were present; and the inquest was adjournal. ■ ■
