AWAKING COUNTY COUNCIL

MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly mooting of tho Awakino County Council was held at Waitangum on Saturday. February 7. There wore present: Councillors Boddio, Kelly. Patterson and Thoms, In the absence of Councillor Leech. Councillor Boddio was voU-d to tho chair. Councillor Leech wired his regret at being unable to attend owing to being under medical treatment,—On tho motion of Councillors Buddie and Kelly, a resolution was passed expressing tho council's regret at Councillor Leech’s illness, and trusting that he would soon bo in good health again. Correspondence was received from tho State Guaranteed Advances Department with reference to the Kiritohcro, Waitanguru and Waipaua loans —Tho clerk was instructed to write tho department asking them to expedite matters as much as possible. Mr. Hally wrote urging tho council to use its influence lo gel tho Government to complete the lormatiou work on the Mangakokopu Road in readiness for the metalling which is to bo done by special Joan.—On the motion of Councillors Patterson and Kelly, it was resolved that the clerk bo instructed to write tho Minister for Public Works asking him to complete tho formation work on tho Mangakokopu Road from its junction with the Kiritehcro Road to the eastern boundary of section 6, block 2, Wharcorino survey district, so that tho metalling scheme can bo carried out.

Messrs. Suggato and Dansoy. engineers, wrote offering their services to tiie county.

Mr. Newcombo asked permission to erect a (>ost and rail lencc for half a chain approaching the Mangaotaki Bridge on tho To Jvuiti-Awakino Road. —Ou tho motion of Councillors Kelly and Patterson, iho matter was left to Councillor Boddio to deal with.

- The Public Works Department wrote with reference rn oj>cning up tho road from Waikauau to Kiritehcro and the Waikauau Upper Valley Road. —On the motion of Councillors Kelly and Patterson tho matter wits held over pending tho chairman’s report.

The Waitomo County Council wrote asking tho Awakino County lo assist financially in getting export advice as to the advisability ol putting in a light railway from Te Kuiti to Pjo Pio.—On iho motion of Councillors Boddio and Thoms It was resolved that the county offer io contribute one-quarter of the cost of the trial survey, otc., and that such cost bo charged to tho eastern portion of tho South Riding, tho east portion of the Central Riding, and that portion of tho North Riding affected.

On tho motion of Councillors Kelly and Patterson it was resolved that it bo left in Councillor Thoms’ hands to explain to Mr. Ouglov the council’s altitude re tho Mangaotaki Road. On the motion of Councillors Kelly and Thoms, it was resolved that the matter of the Awakino telephone loan bo held over pending further information irom the Postal Department. On the motion of Councillors Bodttie and Kelly it was resolved that tho mailer of taking out a fidelity insurance policy be left in tho hands of the clerk.

Councillors Patterson and Kelly proposed that Councillors Leech and Boddio bo appointed delegates, to attend tho meeting of tho Back-blocks Association to bo held at Taumarunui, and that tho question of remits in connection with this be held over till tho next meeting. On the motion of Councillors Patterson and Thoms it was resolved that tho Government be asked to make a fresh valuation of tho county as it is four years since it was last done. Tho clerk was asked to procure a list of thirds and tho date when, available for tho Awakino County. It was resolved that it be left to Councillor Boddie to make arrangements for expending the Government grant on the road west of tho Mangaotaki Bridge. It was resolved that tho matter of fixing the riding boundaries bo left over till tho next meeting. The next meeting of the council will be heal at Waitanguru on Saturday March 7, at 3.30 p.m.
