In the House of Commons Mr. bPEerma announced that the Government had no power to prevent the deported South African labour leaders ■ landing. • Waterston, who is an Aus- ■ tralian, and Poutsma, who is a natura--1 Used Britisher, could be prevented as aliens. DEPORTED -MEN INTERVIEWED. (Received Feb. 17, 12.10 p.m.) LONDON, Feb, 16. The steamer Umgeni called at Las Palmas for provisions. Nobody was allowed to embark or disembark. The deported Labourites, interviewed from a munch, said they intended to insist on lauding, but had afterwards decided not to land, in order not to compromise the captain and officers who had treated them with kindness. Bain declined to make a statement ■pending consultation with the English leaders. He admitted that the deportation wqs not altogether a surprise.
