RECEPTION AT AUCKLAND. • Per Press Association AUCKLAND, Dec. 18. Lord Liverpool, who arrived by the Malwa this morning, was entertained unofficially at luncheon this, afternoon by the Mayor and City Councillors. There was a large attendance, including several members of Parliament. Speeches of welcome were made by the Mayor and Prime Minister, and Lord Liverpool made a happy speech in plyLord and Lady Liverpool left for Wellington in company with the Prime Minister by a special train this evening at 6.15 o’clock, which will, reach Wellington about mid-day to-morrow. WELCOME IN WELLINGTON. WELLINGTON, Dec. 19. ' Lord and Lady Liverpool were given a cordial welcome on their arrival in Wellington this afternoon. The weather was fine, and there was a large attendance at the railway station. The Mayor (Mr. D. M'Laren), in his address, said that many people at Home took pride in the fact that their country was “lapt by the sound of the sea.” His Excellency would early discover that the people of Wellington were lolled _ into ~ restfulness . by the sound of wind and wave. The Maori people called this -land Aotea-Roa, which translated, meant - “the long white cloud,” and his Worship expressed’the hope that this .cloud would be white and peaceful to his Excellency at all times. On behalf of Wellington he .gave Lord and Lady Liverpool a hearty welcome to the city. Lord Liverpool said he could not adequately express his appreciation of the spontaneous expression of goodwill and kindliness, contained in the word/ of welcome. Both Lady Liverpool and himself would strive hard to merit the esteem of the people. His Excellency is bt'ig sworn in this afternoon.
