WHANGAMOMONA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) March B.—Tho township was quite up-to-date to-day, there being three largo motor cars lined up at the hotel, hiss ides Cortland waggons, gigs. etc. Tho sheep and cattle sale of Mr Newton King was the attraction. There was a j large entry of sheep, and nearly every- i tiling in the yard was sold at the anc- ( lion or afterwards. The farmers eon- 1 gratulated Mr. King on the substantial sheep voids ho had just erected, all material being of the best quality of Australian Hurd wood. Another accident happened yesterday | to Mr. \V. Reilly, who, with his mates, I was working on road construction work | in the Tangarak.au Gorge in a deep | face on the river, when a fall of earth took place, and struck Reilly on the back, knocking him over 80 feet into the river bod. Mis mates wont promptly to Ills assistance and brought him on to Whanga late this evening, There is to be a meeting on the railway works next week with a view of evolving some scheme to get a resident doctor. With settlers and others we should be able to give a doctor £-100 per annum, and this, with a private practice, should induce some young and ambitious doctor to apply, as after the railway passes here Wlianga will be a large centre and a good district for a medical man. Mr. Tern .Sutherland left hero last week for Australia, whore ho is to bo married ties month, returning in a few weeks’ time. Mr. M. Milk, of Now Plymouth, was in the district for a few days. Mr. B. Dive, M.P., also paid a visit to Wlianga. Mr. Jennings, M.P., is coming through from the Olmra to-morrow. Several people from this end are going through to the Main Trunk line. It will soon bo possible to drive right through the Tnngarakau Gorge. In fact, I think inside three years at the present rate of railway construction it will ho possible to travel from Olmra to Now Plymouth by rail, a distance of 1.00 miles through some of Taranaki’s best grazing country, in a few hours. When this hnpixms it means a very large increase of business for Strafford and New Plymouth, more especially the port at Moturoa, as by that time the. harbour improvements will be sufficiently advanced to allow Homo boats in. Farmers here and in the Obura will thus he in the same position as regards freights as the farmers in the Mannwatu, so there is a very bright future for farmers all through this back country.
