WAITARA.

(From Onr Own Correspondent.) Afarch 10.—There was a good attendance at tho Urcnui Sports yesterday. The weather was all that could be desired, and everything pasted off smoothly. Three Waitara representatives, Messrs. Stoddart, V. Tate, and J. Adlara, scored several wins each. The playing of the Waitara Municipal Band was voted Al, and contributed greatly to the pleasure of the fixture. As a token of Urenui’s appreciation of the fine programme of music discoursed, Air. A. R. Davis, of Rukcaruhe, took a list round, and succeeded in obtaining the sum of £3 14a in aid of tho band’s funds. The baud appreciate this spontaneous action very much. Mr.' Saunders had an excellent house here on Tuesday evening, when one of tho best programmes evor shown locally was screened. The Waitara Library will receive £2O 17s 3d as Government subsidy, this amount coming from the amount voted by Parliament. At the conclusion. of the WaitaraFitzroy howling mate]) on the Waitara green yesterday, Mr. L. B. Qrimstone, on behalf of tho local club, presented Sir. W. Sampson with a valuable medal as a small token of their appreciation of tho valuable services rendered to the club by the recipient, particularly in the matter of providing such a splendid and extensive green. Air. Sampson briefly returned thanks in a modest speech, stating that it was highly gratifying to him to know his efforts had been so much appreciated. His aim was to give file local club a green that would bo equal to other clubs. Tho medal is bowl-shaped, and boars tho following inscription:—“Presented to W. Sampson by members of the W.B.C. for services rendered.” A social in aid of tho Clifton Hall funds will bo hold on Thursday evening next.
