HURFORD ROAD.
(From Our'Own Correspondent.) March 9.—Tho Harford school mistress, Miss J. Adamson, is resigning her position, in fact giving up teaching and settling down to the joys of married life. During her four years' sojourn here.she has made many friends, also proved herself a most capable teacher. . , Miss Adamson, fourth daughter of the late Mr. Joseph Adamson, of Unas, V/c.-t Coast, was' married quietly on the 17th nit., to Mr. Cyril George, third son of Mr. E. Georg', of Barrett lioail. The wedding tool: place at Mr. Kidd’s residence on this road, only relations of the' bridegroom and « few friends of tile bride being present. The eeremonv was performed by the |{ev, Mr. finy, of New Plymouth. Miss l.inda George acted ns bridesmaid, Mr. Kidd giving the bride away. Afternoon tea was served, ending a pleasant and interesting afternoon. The usual hand of tin bottlers turner] out on the Monday night after the wedding to serenade Mr. and Mrs. George at their home. After a few minutes' vigorous cannonading, refreshment. 1 ; appeared on tlio .scene ami all were regaled to their hearts’ content. A farewell social was tendered to Mr. A. Wood, at the Hurford Hoad ,School on February 10. A fine bright night induced a fair number to put in an appearanee, ladies predominating. As dancing constituted the main part of the programme, the gentlemen were in luck as regards partners lor same. By request, .Mrs. Kidd sang Irish songs during intervals, and they were greatly appreciated, especially by those nailing front the Emerald Isle, who dearly love the songs of old Erin. After doing full justice to the dainty on tables provided by the ladies, speeches were made complimentary to Mr. AVood by Mr. P. Rail! and Mr. J. GTeonhill, both s|K-akcrs extolling his many good points ns a settler and a neighbour of many years’ standing. In responding, Mr. AVood thanked them very feelingly for their kind remarks, adding that he would inform the ladies of AVhangaroa what a grand send-off he had received from the ladies of Hurford Road. At this stage the company sang “For He’s a Jolly Good Fellow,” with a will, ending with three ringing cheers for Mr. AVood and family. A most successful and pleasant evening was brought to a close by all joining hands and singing “Aukl Lang Syne.” Air. A. AVood junr., acted as M.C., the music being in the capable hands of Mrs. Pearson, of Omata. Mr .R. Frost conducted the annual harvest service at Hurford school last Suminv. A fair number were present. The room was tastefully decorated with ferns and flowers. Vegetables were not entirely absent, but the quantity is diminishing rapidly every year, threatening extermination in the near future. Those assembled were treated to an interesting sermon. Appropriate hymns were sung, Miss Hallam officiating at'thc organ.
