A CURIOUS POSITION.
INTENDING SETTLER TOO WEALTHY. Per Prer' A-j-nriatim. NAPIER, March 10. To-day a somewhat, unusual case came before the Hawke’s Lay Lund Heard. A transferee in his declaration stated that ilis capital was HIS,OOO. Members of ..ho board wore quite unprepared for so wealthy an applicant, ami suggested shat there must bo some mistake, and chat the amount should be £IBOO. However, tho applicant was called, and confirmed tho statement. Then arose a curious position, it being discovered that the transferee possessed more capital chan tho law allowed such applicants to rave. It was suggested that tho transorco, whoso misiortune was to own £IB,OOO, should consult a solicitor, with a view of making a fresh declaration. The land ho proposed to acquire would jo greatly benefited by the expenditure of the money which this transferee promised to lay out, and-he appeared to bo die very kind of settler who docs mucli good on tho land. ... _ *
