FITZROY SCHOOL PICNIC.
Favoured by a beautiful day, the scholars of tho Fitzroy State School had a most enjoyable time at tho Pimw yesterday, on the occasion of their annual picnic. In the afternoon a largo crowd of parents and friends assembled to see tho children at tho different competitions. Tho following were the winners in the different events: — Flat Races.—l. Francis; boys: 1 F. Gush, 2 C- Loaliuid. Throwing tho Cricket Ball. —L, Francis. Long Jump.—Ctiris: I. Francis; boys: G. Mack. Married Ladies’ Race. —1 Mrs. Jenkins, 2 Mrs. Simmons, 3 Mrs. Yardley. After distributing the prizes, Mr. Tisrh, the popular chairman of the School Committee, thanked tho Ladies’ Committee, the parents and friends who had so liberally responded to tho appeal of tho canvassers this year, tho donations being a considerable increase on those of last year; Mr. Stoffonson for his gi/t of summer drinks; Cock and Co. for sweets; the East End Bathing Committee for their many nets of kindness, and all those who had assisted to make the treat tho success it was. After the usual cheers to the committee and the school staff, the youngsters wended their way home “tired hut happy.”
