ATHLETICS.

HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS. SUCCESSFUL GATHERING. The annual sports in connection with the New Plymouth High School took place on the school grounds yeaterday ullernoon. The weather conditions were 'all that could he desired, and there was a larger atlem)i','ice than usual. The gathering proved a very interesting and successful one. The various events were well contested, and several of last year s records were broken. Everything was well managed hy the committee, cotisistmg of the following pupils:—F. E. Clarke, N. F. Little, E. D. Colson, E. Grant, C. V. Day, F. H. Billing, ami L. Goss. Mr. d. Hemptou acted as judge, and Mr. Wart! was starter. Owing to the lateness of tho hour two of the races were deleted from the programme, and it was also agreed to distribute the prises on some intiire occasion. Results:—

During an interval in the sports programme an excellent afternoon tea was served by the girl pupils and was much appreciated by the visitors. At the conclusion of the sports cheers wore called for the visitors and officials, and Mr. Mac Diarmid, chairman of the Board of Governors announced, much to the delight of the pupils, that today would bo a holiday.
