Mason, 6]—3 4 ; Dun- ' lop, liicks and Mara, each 6J —44; Barnes, 5—5; Gyles and Fox, 4—6;, Grierson, 2—B; Beck, o—lo. This is Mason’s third win. Davies won tho two former contests. ATHLETIc'uNION. TIMARU, Jan. 3. At tho annual meeting of tho Now. ■ Zealand Athletic Union it was decided, to offer tho next championships to Auckland. Mr. J. Kennedy, of Geraldine, was appointed president; and Mr. H. H. Fraser, of Tlmaru, socrotary. An effort is to be made to get Auckland to affiliate with the union. The balance sheet showed a credit :of £7O. Tho title is to bo altered to the “Athletic and Cycling Union.” A CHARGE OF MURDER. AUCKLAND, Jan. 3. Alfred Albert Cash, who stands charged with having murdered his wife at Helensviilo on Christmas Day, was brought from the hospital to-day to hear tho charge .preferred against him in tho Police Court. He was obviously in a state of acuto mental distress.. His neck was. swathed in thick dressings, which, covered the self-inflicted wound on his throat. He was remanded to appear at Helcnsville next Monday. BOOTMAKERS’ CONFERENCE. DUNEDIN, Jan. 3; • • < The bootmakers’ conference, • to-day ' passed a resolution recommending the Federal Council to obtain the opinion of members of the federation as to;the establishment of a co-operative" boot factory, and, if branches are favourable', recommending the Federal Council to appoint a committee to draw up a scheme. The secretary was instructed to write to Ministers and members* Hi Parliament, asking them to support legislation for having all boots and shoes made in tho Dominion branded “Made in New Zealand,” and also with tho manufacturer’s name. - Jti. LAND AND MORTGAGE COMPANY, AUCKLAND, Jan. 4. The Now Zeaeland Land and - Mortgage Company Has received a cable that the general meeting adopted the directors’ recommendation that a dividend of 8 per cent, per annum be paid for the year (including interim-dividend), that the balance of £20,000 be paid to tho reserve, anti £7288 carried forward. -■ The chairman stated that the directors would probably pay 9 per cent, next year in two instalments.
