Several witnesses identified the clothe* and jewellery found on tho body as belonging to the dead girl. There was a scene when the accused man started cross - examining Ethel Harris' father. . The latter called Smart a black wretch and villain, and constables had to prevent him leaving the witness-box to execute a threat to smash Smart.
