MINING.

The manager of tho Champion Mines, Ltd,, reported as follows for the week ending October 22:—AVo have been engaged this week in taking along a short stone north and timbering up the drive. The reef has been somewhat pinched along the bottom of this stone, hut is now making again and has every appearance of opening out as height is attained. The quartz is of a very kindly nature, showing plenty of sulphides, but is not carrying quite so much mineral as in the southern end. AVo still have about eight feet to go north to break into the place, from which I took portion of tho roof in the previous crushing.

The Factolns dredge last week gave a return of 40 ounces of gold for 182 hours’ work.
