CHARGES AND CONVICTIONS. (By Our Parliamentary Reporter.) Wellington, Oct., 25. A return \vas presented to the House yesterday relative to the charges of and convictions for sly grog-selling in the Dominion for the years 1908 hhd 1909. Altogether it appears that thete were in 1909 260 charges and ICO convictions, ns against 156 chargps and 100 convictions in 1908, It is interesting to note that in the Bi-neC' district there were four charges hud one conviction in 1909, while in 1908 no charges at all arc' recorded. At Invercargill in 1908 there were 24 charges and 11 convictions; last year there were 13 charges and five convictions. Another interesting feature of the report is that at Auckland in 1908 there •were four charges and throe convictions; last Jrettf there were 20 charges and ,18 convictions. At Ohincmuri in 1908 there was no charge and no conviction; in 19.09 thCfe-Were 37 charges and 25 convictions. At Tonmaruuui Inst year there were 3l Charges and 22 convictions; during the previous year the charges numbered 22 and the convictions 21. At Wellington In 1908 there wore 29 charges aiid 22 convictions; last yeaF there Wore 23 charges and 21 convictions. Another feature or the report relates to AshliUftoii. In 1908 there were five. Charges Slid four convictions; in 1909 there were 22 charges and three convictibfis.
