An invention which should prove of value to the public and picture show proprietors has been patented in Australia, and a demonstration of its effectiveness was made recently in Sydney. . The inventor (Mr. J, E. Tathom) explained that his invention consisted of a jet, automatically worked, which' projects a stream of air on to the gate of the hiograph machine. He demonstrated how, without the stream of air, the celluloid films almost instantaneously ignited if flame got near them, and how, with his appliance adjusted, the same films wore subjected to ‘the same test without catching fire. The efficiency of the patent was further demonstrated by temporarily withdrawing the air stream, allowing the film to catch tire, and promptly, by the reapplicatiou of the stream, extinguishing it.
