SYDNEY MANUFACTURERS.
1 AND THE LABOUR LAWS. | A SEVERE INDICTMENT. 1 By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. ! (Received Oct. 25, 9.0 a.m.) , SYDNEY, Oct. 25. 1 Sydney Chamber of Manufacturers has decided to convene a conference to consider the trend of industrial legislation and other matters affecting tho industries of the State. Some strong : speeches were made against some of the laws now being placed on tho statute I book. The mover of tho resolution : claimed that manufacturers were surrounded with a net-work of laws enacted to benefit tho employees without duo consideration of their fairness or possi- : ble results. 1 Mr. Wunderlich, president of the i Chamber, claimed that no one could shut his eyes to tho gravity of the situ- ' ation. The ultimate object of' all this i legislation was that the men should rule the masters. Already they dictated hours and wages and the class of labour • to bo employed, and the next step would be the governing of profits. Once that point was reached tho final step would be in the direction of laying hands on : profits on the plea that individual wel- ; faro should yield to national interests. In the near future they would have to ; face tho danger of an attempt at the | wholesale nationalisation of all sources iof industrial wealth. Who, he asked, ; having capital and life interests in . industry wore going calmly and weakly ; to submit to such revolutionary I methods? ! One speaker warned the Chamber that 1 the proposed conference would l>o a great mistake. It would bo like holding | a red rag to a bull. ' It was hotter to j leave well alone.
