SOUTH AFRICA.

DR. JAMESON’S SPEECH. MR. MERRIMAN CONDEMNED. By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. Feb. 14. , Dr. Jameson’s speech at Capetown made -an enormous impression and lias been received favourably by the moderate section of the South African party. He remarked that although Mr. Merriraau had complained that coalition would abolish party government, he once declared that party government brought the Capo some of its greatest woes. Dr, Jameson added that Mr. Merriman demanded a critical opposition, perhaps not in the first Union Govorhmoht. In that caso there would be a more efficient critical body in the new Parliament. Mr. Merriman, he said, was an obsequious tool, not the leader of the Bond.
